About Hungary

Tokay, the wine of kings and emperors, is universally known.

Its complex and exciting elaboration expresses a broad range of white wines from simplest Szamorodni which is the most liqueur-like; and the fabled Eszencia which relies on the noble rot, botrytis, for its character. Tokay comes from several grape varieties among which the furmint and the hárslevelü are the most noted.

The country counts several other white and rare local grape varieties among which the juhfark, the ezerjo, the keknyelu or the mezesfeher.

Several red grape varieties are very popular of what the kekfrankos (variety of gamay), the kadarka, the kekoporto as well as the Hungarian varieties of pinot kisburgundi black and nagyburgundi.
