Valley Hunter is the best known sub-region, located close to the city of Sydney. North of the city of Cessnock several qualitative areas of red volcanic soil are well-suited for syrah.

Other vineyards include: Cowra, Camberra region, Mudgee, Orange, Hilltops, Pericoota, Gundagai.
