About Shandong
In the eastern part of the country, close to Beijing (Beijing), this peninsula has a much softer climate than that in Xinjian. A broad range of international grape varieties is tested or in production there.
In white, the welschriesling grape variety is very popular even though chardonnay was planted in great numbers during the past few years.
In reds, production comes from syrah, merlot, gamay and Cabernet-sauvignon, not forgetting a cousin of the Cabernet-franc that is only found in China, Cabernet-gernischt.
A third of the 500 Chinese wine domains are established in Shandong.
