Punch Martiniquais was a popular drink of early West Indies origin, probably introduced by British colonists. The drink consists of rhum or rum, cane-sugar syrup and a slice of lemon peel. The Duquesne company introduced the drink to France when it first imported sugar-case syrup. But it did not take long for Clément and other companies to create bottled cocktail versions for export to France.
